I have a piece of property in Louisiana. An oil rig is going up about 400yds from my property. How close does my property have to be in order to receive royalty payment from an active rig.
Thanks

The real question you should ask is if they own the mineral rights to your property, or do you. Chances are that you do not.

I would think only if it is on your property!

Firstly check to see if you own the mineral rights to your property. If you do then make sure that the drilling company does not enter your property i.e. anywhere directly below your boundaries. If the drilling activity strikes oil get an oil rig onto your property ASAP and start drilling. I would gladly accept consultancy commission!!

I’m not sure about the laws in the U.S., but in Australia, a land-owner only owns the land and nothing under the ground. On the property where I grew up, in outback Australia, there were oil rigs ON our property, and we got nothing for it.
