You can trim it right up to the property line. Get the advise of a tree trimmer, to do it right. Seal off the cut limbs, and then remove the debris.

well first you should talk to your neighbor cause maybe they wont mind and youd be saving time trying to decide whether or not to do it. if the roots are on their property its their tree…but if its hanging in your yard i would think you could trim it? i know there was a lilac tree/bush in the neighbors yard that hung into mine near my window. im allergic so we cut it without asking. the neighbor was upset that we didnt ask but said she wouldnt have minded if we had. she even said she woulda trimmed it herself had we asked.

Why dont you just talk to your neighbors??
Theyll understand.. If you cut it w/o their permission theyre going to be upset whether its against the law or not.

Check the local laws on this one, it may depend on your town. After that, I would still talk to the neighbor, no sense causing an issue over it. Most of the time, you are allowed to trim anything on your property, as long as it doesn’t affect the trees growth or health.

The law can be different in different jurisdictions. This can be based on city ordinance, state laws, etc. So the best thing to do is consult someone with the city you are living in.

You can TRIM it, but be advised that if you go too far and it dies, you will be liable to replace it.
